The Snake, the Bird and the Buffalo

A long time ago, in a dense and lush forest, there lived a cunning snake, a free bird and a strong buffalo. Although they were different species, the three animals were close friends and spent a lot of time together.

One morning the snake told its friends that it had heard of a treasure hidden in a nearby cave. It proposed that the three of them go in search of the treasure together, and divide the treasure equally among themselves.

The bird and the buffalo were excited by the idea and agreed to follow the snake. The bird was flying over the area to keep watch and the buffalo was warming up its muscles for any heavy work that would arise in this adventure.

They walked for hours until they finally reached the cave entrance, which was closed by a large boulder.

The bird flew over the stone and guided the buffalo in the task of removing it with its great strength.

As soon as a suitable gap was opened, the snake quickly snuck in, followed by the bird. The buffalo couldn’t get in.

Just inside the cave, the snake found the shining treasure and began to separate its part. The bird was impressed by the amount of gold and jewels that the snake was separating. However, as the snake continued to separate more and more treasures, it started to get greedy and refused to share the goods equally.

The snake reasoned that since it had been directly responsible for finding the treasure, it deserved to keep most of it. The bird and the buffalo were upset with the snake’s selfish attitude, but they didn’t know what to do.

While the snake was still obsessed with its wealth, the bird and buffalo decided to leave without it.

“Let your way of life be free of the love of money, while you are content with the present things. For he has said: “I will never leave you, and I will never abandon you.”” (Hebrews 13:5)

When the snake finally came out of the cave to see how it was going to take its treasures, it was shocked to see that its friends were gone. She felt sad and lonely, realizing that its greed had destroyed a beautiful friendship.

And finally, because it had neither legs nor arms, it had to leave everything behind.

This is a good example of how selfishness and arrogance can ruin good friendships and good coexistence with our brothers and sisters. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:24: “Let each one keep seeking, not his own advantage, but that of the other person”.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, always keep this text in mind and cultivate good friendship, making our God, Jehovah, happy.
