Family Worship – tip 11

Look in the Bible for Goliath’s account, specifically where it describes your height. Divide the story among family members so that each one reads according to one of the characters in the story. If your children can not read, you can read them the story in the Bible or, if you prefer, the story in the My Book of Bible Stories. After reading, discuss the story. What did you learn from it and how to apply it to our lives today? But how big was Goliath for real? Create a life-size poster so that you and your family get a sense of the true size of this man. One idea is to create a PDF file of a real scale image of Goliath, divided into standard size sheets. If you prefer, you can print them on adhesive paper, to make it easier to paste on a larger sheet, otherwise just use glue. Identify each sheet with a large number on the back based on your file so you do not get lost when assembling. Take a large piece of kraft paper (about ten feet) and stretch it out on the floor. Then glue each piece according to its identification on the large sheet of brown paper, like a big puzzle. I suggest that you put all the pieces in place and, once assembled, glue them together. Once you’re done, hang the large paper with tape on a wall. Now just stand up next to the paper to see the difference. David was really brave to challenge such a giant.

If you prefer, to make it more attractive to your children, you can cut a very large sheet of kraft paper, equivalent to the size of Goliath, and draw him on it. Make the main sketch and then let the little ones paint it. Then just hang on the wall and ready!
