Salt For Cleaning, How To Really Use It Better
As with many substances of natural origin, salt, for cleaning, can be a very valid ally, capable of treating different types of surfaces efficiently. Then you’ll see how to use, especially coarse salt, to get brilliant results without the need for detergents.
What makes this substance particularly useful in domestic cleaning is its ability to retain liquids, and below we will see how to use it both dissolved in water and dry, without forgetting the beneficial effect it has on the environment.
Floors and Joints
To begin, salt can be very good for maintaining floors, which are often difficult to clean and polish.
Coarse salt may be the best way for this type of surface, but it is important that it is not marble floors as it is a particularly sensitive material.
Thanks to the brightening effect it exerts, it is the choice that can restore the original shine to floors or any type of hard surface.
Furthermore, its ability to retain fluid makes it a perfect deterrent for bacteria and pathogens that tend to proliferate in places where humidity is highest.
For a surface that appears moderately dirty, a handful of salt is enough to dissolve in 1.5 liters of hot water and then wet the cloth that will be wiped over the area to be cleaned. This type of use will allow for shiny, scratch-free floors.
If the dirt seems stubborn, it is possible to combine salt with the right arm par excellence, baking soda.
You may decide to prepare a creamy compound that will allow you to effectively clean the joints.
It is enough, therefore, to combine salt and water in equal amounts, for convenience we can talk about half a glass of one and a half of the other agents and mix until a creamy mixture comes out.
Once you’ve prepared the cream, you can apply it with an old toothbrush, the dirt will be removed in an instant and the joints will come back free of that ugly gray.
Stoves and Pans
In the kitchen, salt is not only used to season the delicious delicacies that are prepared every day, but, almost unexpectedly, it can be a very valid substitute for detergent in the area of cleaning steel and metals in general.
If you spread a small amount of salt on stoves and grills, your job will be to absorb the oil that inadvertently leaves the pans and ends up on the stove; it also softens even the toughest blemishes.
Alternatively, it is possible to prepare a natural brightener by dissolving the salt in water, which if used on steel parts will give them the shine as if they were new.
If you want to use salt to clean pots and pans or to remove encrustations that make them unusable, fill the sink tank with hot water to dissolve a few tablespoons of salt and leave the dishes to be scraped off to soak.
After a few minutes, just wipe it with a sponge and rinse. For everything that is made of stainless steel, it is possible to make a mixture of half a liter of hot water, a tablespoon of salt and a tablespoon of lemon juice.

Bathroom
Salt is perfect for creating an excellent compound for cleaning mirrors, tiles and bathroom ceramics.
If the problem is deposits that form below the water level in the toilet, it’s good to know that you can make a mixture of 1.5 liters of hot water and a handful of salt to pour directly into the drain.
The high level of humidity that forms in the bathroom can favor the appearance of microorganisms that cause mold on the tiles and in the shower cubicles, salt can be the weapon to fight and eliminate them.
Use a spray bottle, which you can keep as soon as you finish a detergent that comes with it, prepare a mixture in it made with hot water and two tablespoons of salt, to be sprayed directly on the affected surface.
To give your faucets a shine, you can add the juice of half a lemon or a few tablespoons of vinegar to the mixture previously made.
Finally, you can choose to use about 2 tablespoons of salt inside the detergent compartment of the washing machine, this will allow the pipes to have a very long life and not clog, it will also protect the shine of colored clothes, in this case it’s good to check that the color is resistant to treatment.
Bedroom
As stated before, salt is the perfect ally for cleaning hard surfaces, but not only that. The last room in which it remains to be seen whether salt can be used is the bedroom.
Mix the salt with the water and clean the furniture with the mixture to remove marks and stains on the wood. However, in this case, the important thing is to test in a small hidden part the effectiveness of salt on furniture, as for some types of paints and varnishes, it can be harmful.
Finally, it is possible to remember that salt is a marine product that tends to absorb liquids. This explains why a bowl filled at least halfway with salt acts exactly like a dehumidifier.
In this way, you can see that salt is really a friend when it comes to cleaning. It is very efficient, but it is not corrosive to the hands, as chlorine is often the case.
