Little Monkey

“Little Monkey” is a story that teaches us a very good lesson. In a large wire mesh enclosure lived about 15 small monkeys. Inside the enclosure, in addition to the wooden and bamboo frames, there was also a coconut tree, and it was the fruit season.

A little rookie monkey climbed the wire mesh, picked up a coconut at the top, went down, picked up a stone, lifted it above its head with both hands, and hit the coconut. The hard stone managed to crack the skin, revealing the core of the fruit.

But, when he dropped the stone to enjoy the well-deserved snack, he was stolen by an old monkey, who spied on him the whole time. Despite being old, he was very fast and the little monkey didn’t have a chance.

The only thing the rookie did was gesture a lot with his hands and arms, in visible signs of protest, and make a lot of high-pitched sounds that, if it could be translated, would certainly be unpleasant words.

The funny thing about all this is that the scene was repeated over and over again, and the little monkey didn’t change its attitude, so neither did the old monkey its strategy.

"The shrewd one sees the danger and conceals himself, but the inexperienced keep right on going and suffer the consequences." (Proverbs 22:3)

What can we take away from this story? Like the little monkey, if we persist in doing what Jehovah does not like, if we continue to associate with those who do not serve Jehovah, if we persist in doing the same thing, it is foolish to expect a different result.

Satan, like that old monkey, will continue to harm us, tempt us, more and more as we make the same mistakes. We make his life easier when we insist on maintaining the same behavior and allow him to continue to trouble us.

We definitely don’t want that. Therefore, brothers and sisters, let us stay awake so as not to make Satan’s life easier and learn from our mistakes so that we can avoid them, as well as keep our Bible reading up to date so that we can increase our knowledge and fear of Jehovah and not be like that little monkey.
