Let It Go Or Suffer

For many people to let go of the past or remember past times, it can be challenging as the illustration below illustrates this well.

A man was on the bank of a river and wanted to cross over. The current was very strong and it would be impossible to swim across it. At that moment he saw a small boat stuck in the riverside vegetation.

Quickly he put the boat in the water and began to row to the other side and soon reached the other bank. As soon as she set foot on solid ground, she took the boat, put it on his back, and set off towards the forest.

Some people who had watched the whole scene were amazed by the man’s unexpected attitude. They went and asked him: “Why did you put the boat on your back? What good will it do to you now that you’ve crossed the river?”

The man then, already sweating and tired of the effort necessary to carry that vessel on his back, answered them: “This boat helped me a lot to cross the river. I cannot abandon it. I hope that now it will help me through the forest too.”

Philippians 3:8 says: "What is more, I do indeed also consider all things to be loss on account of the excelling value of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have taken the loss of all things and I consider them as a lot of refuse, that I may gain Christ"

Thus, for Paul the things of the past were no longer important and he considered them as garbage, those things no longer served him, now he had a new life, a life dedicated to the ministry. We must imitate Paul in not looking back to the past, but rather focusing on the present blessings we have received.
